Peter Meierle Children Education Fund and Scholarships:
1.1. Peter Meierle, his family & friends made a contribution to assist the underprivileged and needy school students. 10 scholoarships and learning material make a contribution for Projector, Mic set, Compact Disk and sports material were donated in 2019-20.

Dr. S.N.Nageswara Rao had joined CReNIEO as faculty, Department of History. Four candidates are registered for Ph.D. (History) under the guideship of Dr. Bernard D’ Sami.
1.2 The Pulicat National Matriculation School (PNMS):
The total strength of the school for the academic year 2019-20 is 793 with 438 boys and 365 girls. 45 students appeared for the 10th Std Tamil Nadu Board Examination in 2018 and 44 passed with good marks and one failed.
25 new backrest benches and desks were added for the benefit of the students. A new computer lab and a classroom was also constructed.

1.1. University Of Madras:
The renewal of the affiliation for Ph.D studies, in Economics, Sociology, and History was awarded by the University of Madras for the period 18/11/2015 to 17/11/2016. Dr. Bernard D’ Sami, (history) Dr. Anbones Raj (sociology) were to be the guides.

1.3 Pulicat National Matriculation School (PNMS):
- In the March 2016 State Board examinations all the 44 students of 10th standard passed with high marks.
- 5centum 2 in Maths and 3 in Social Sciences.
- Aggregate of 400 marks and above was scored by 29 students.
- As per the government norms fees were increased by 10 % for 2016-2017.
- Under the RTE Act the government reimbursed fees directly to parent’s accounts for 15 SC/ST, L.K.G students for the year 2015 -2016.
- School renewal of Recognition certificate was received in March 2016 up to the year 2016.
1.3.2 Peter Mierele Children Education Aid Fund- Scholarships and School benches with backrest.
From Peter Mierele and friends scholarship endowment, an interest amount of Rs. 13,353 was utilized as scholarships at the rate of 1000 each to 13 children from economically poor back ground . A similar amount will be available next year. Peter Mierele, family and friends contributedRs. 1, 16.377 in March 2016 for new toilets at the school.

Dr. Jothi Sivaganam and Dr.Karuppiah of the University of Madras conducted an inspection at Muttukadu to renew the affiliation for Ph.D studies, in Economics, Sociology, and History. Dr. Bernard D’ Sami, (History) Dr. Anbones Raj (Sociology) were invited along with CReNIEO board members.
1.2 Academic Consultations and Seminars:
1.2.1 Seminar on ‘Indentured Labour to Migrant Worker’ (Gandhi’s South African Experience), and amp; “Development and Social Media”
1.2.2 Indian Institute of Management–Bangalore- Senior Executive Programme:
Two of our staff Mr. Premchandran and Mr. Meersa underwent an Executive management training programme at IIM-B from 12 th to 16 th May. This programme was sponsored by the Fair Climate Network. This is for setting up Rural Community Producer units for local products and for establishing carbon trading activities.
1.2.3 Millets – Yercaud staff and farmers Interaction with the principal, professors and students of the WCC Chennai.
On 12 th September 2014 CReNIEO staff, Yercaud staff and two Yercaud millet famers had an interactive meeting with the Principal of Women’s Christian College, Dr. Ridling Waller and with Vice Principal , Dr.Janet Jeyasingh, Dr. Annette along with professors of the Home Science Department and plant biology. Samples of the millets grown in Yercaud were displayed. Jayaprakash, Project coordinator of Yercaud made a presention on the traditional cultivation of millets. The WCC professors explained on the innovative receipes they have made out of millets, for breakfast, health drinks, and confectionaries.
1.2.3 Mangroves-Internal Project Review Meeting:
On 30 th and 31 st of May 2014, internationally acclaimed Mangrove expert Dr. Kathiresan Head of the Department of Marine Sciences, Annamalai University along with marine scientist Dr. Nammalwar of Anna University and Dr. Jayabalan of Tamil University Thanjavur visited our mangrove resonation programme and reviewed and appreciated our efforts of the Global Nature Fund (GNF) restoration Programme and gave some valuable advice for up scaling the efforts.
1.2.3 Seminar on “Fiscal Federalism Theory and Practice”
Dr. Jyothi Sivaganam, Head of the Department of Economics University of Madras made a presentation on the topic on 6 th August 2015. Dr. M. Naganathan President CReNIEO introduced the topic in his presidential address. The seminar was held on the occasion of CRENIEO founder Director Dr. K.Rajaratnam’s 94 birth anniversary.
1.2.4 Living Lakes Conference, Nanchang, China,
Mrs. Premanjali Rao between 17 th and 19 th in November 2014 attended this conference at Nanchang China and made a presentation on Pulicat Lake. The Theme was on “Lakes in densely populated regions Balance between people and nature.”
1.2.5 Project Review Meeting, Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka,
The third global Nature Fund project review meeting was held on November 2014 24 th to 26 th which was hosted by Nagenahiru Foundation, a Network partner of CReNIEO in the biodiversity restoration programme. Ms. Premanjali Rao and Mr. Meerasa made the presentations. GNF has also requested that a suitable auditor be appointed for the BMZ funds who is registered with the Chamber of Commerce. We had recommended Mr. J.K. Reddy and Co. We have to communicate this to the German Embassy in New Delhi or their approval.

1.3.1 Water Conservation and Recycling: Interactive meeting with Dr. Paul Appasamy
Dr. Paul Appasamy former Vice Chancellor, Karunaya University, Coimbatore and currently Honorary Professor of Economics at Madras School of Economics, talked to the Pulicat School students on rainfall, groundwater recharge, recycling of water, reverse osmosis, water needs, conservation of water and careers in future.
1.3.2 Peter Meierle Children Education Aid Fund- Scholarships and school benches with backrest.
From Peter Meierle and friends scholarship endowment, an amount of Rs. 11,000 from the interest was utilized for 11 children coming from poor back grounds and especially for those who had three or more children studying. A similar amount will be available next year. Peter Meierle and friends contributed for Rs. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm for 13 benches with back
rest earlier this year.
1.3.3 Zonal Sports: Kabbadi and Shuttle Cork
On 19 th July 2015 on the occasion of Bharathiar Memorial Day, Vellammal Matriculation School organized a sport meet at Andarkuppamum which Junior Girls (VI & VII) won the Zonal Title in Kabbadi, while Junior Girls came up as runners up in shuttle – singles and doubles.
Ms. N. Malathi, has submitted her Ph. D thesis to the University of Madras. Her thesis is on Economic Growth in Tami Nadu Since 1990 in two districts – An analysis of Human Development indicators”. Prof. M. Naganathan is her supervisor.

Renewal of Ph.D. studies was received. We are preparing for the inspection.
1.3 Academic Consultations and seminars:
On April 7th 2013 a seminar was held at YWCA. Dr. P. Duraisawmy Professor of Ecometrics, University of Madras, presentation on “Economic Governance –Issues and perspectives on inequality and poverty” :
On August 8th 2013 a seminar was held on the theme “Prospects for Pulicat lake and its Biodiversity. Presentations were by Dr. Jayapaul Azariah and Dr. P. Nammalwar.

1.4 The Pulicat National Matriculation School (PNMS):
In the March 2014 State Board exams all the 33 students of 10th standard passed with high marks with 4 centum in science and 2 in social science. Negotiations are underway with Infosys representative for the supply of computers for the school along with service and maintenance.
II. Creation of a corpus for Research studies and Publication:
It has been often recalled that Dr. K.Rajaratnam the founder director, wanted CReNIEO to be involved intensively in research studies and this is the basic objectives of the Centre. Due to paucity of funds for the past several years we have not been able to engage in any research work. With this view it was decided to create a corpus through the land and buildings a property of CReNIEO at Vellakadai which has been lying vacant for more than 10 years with huge amounts being spent for its upkeep. Many proposals had been made to put it to use by CReNIEO but none of them were feasible because of its remoteness. It has become a liability to the Centre and in the Executive committee meeting it was proposed to sell the property and create a corpus for CReNIEO and from the interest the Centre can revive socio research studies, which is the main objective of the Centre and the interest can also be spent to partly meet the salaries, administrative and other costs of the Centre.
Ms. N. Malathi, is continuing her Ph. D studies as part time scholar under the guidance of Dr. M. Naganathan. Her thesis is on:”an analysis on human development, education, health, , gender development Tiruvannamalai and Salem districts in Tamil Nadu Economic Growth In Tami Nadu Since 1990 – An analysis of Human Development indicators”.

Renewal of Ph.D. studies in History and sociology continuation fee of Rs. 50,000 was paid.
1.3 Academic Consultations and seminars:
On August 6th 2012 A Consultation was held at Asha Nivas on Pulicat Lake –Bio diversity Marine Biodiversity Conservation and Management – with reference to Pulicat Lake”. Dr. Nammawlar of NIOS was the key speaker. This was on the occasion of Dr. K. Rajaratnam birth anniversary.
1.4 The Pulicat National Matriculation School (PNMS):
In March 2013 State Board exams for 10th standard 30 students (13 Boys 17 Girls) from our Pulicat School appeared for the exam in March 2013 and all of them passed with most of them securing 80 % and above. The school topper is a girl with 96 %. 8 students secured centum marks in science and 1 student in mathematics. The Present strength of the school is 703 with 378 boys and 325 girls.
The Correspondent Ms. Premanjali Rao and the Headmaster Mr. Seralanathan appeared before the Tamil Nadu fee determination committee, and they have communicated the fees to be charged for the year 2013-2015 with 10 % increase every year for next three years. A staircase has been completed and the toilets for girls have been put up. A donation of Rs. 1, 15,000 was received from Peter Meierle and Carina for construction of toilets especially for girls. Required additional land and pattas is still an issue.
The school has completed 25 years and last year in November we had a get together of the first two batches of our 10th standard students, and most of them are doing extremely well. Prof. Nagarajan spoke to the students on the value of education and future of education for Pulicat Children. The PTA has requested if a bust size statute of Dr. K. Rajaratnam could be is installed in the school and they are also willing to contribute.
For the first time a separate audit has been completed for School funds by J. K. Reddy & Co.

II. Sale of Land Creation of Endowment Fund:
As decided in the previous General Body to create an endowment ,CReNIEO sold the a small parcel of land registered in the name of the institution CReNIEO in Muttukadu next to our campus and near Coconut Grove. The land had been encroached upon and there are still illegal occupants. An amount of Rupees one crore was received on 28/09/2012 by CReNIEO by way of a Demand Draft. The buyer is the eminent was Srigazhi Sivachidambaram The amount is placed in fixed deposit and monthly interest is being received. The intrest amount is utilized for running CReNIEO administration so as to lessen its dependence on rural development projects and also utilized for conducting workshops and for fulfilling the objectives of the society.

The three M. Phil students completed the course. The topics for the thesis are as follows.
Aridoss A. : A Socioeconomic Study of Cashew Nut Cultivation with special reference to Melmampattu Village in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu.
Vinoth Kumar M. : A Study of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) in Manakkal Village of Ariyalur District in Tamil Nadu.
Siva Kumar C : A Study of the Socioeconomic Development of Slum Dwellers with special reference to the Mangalapuram Area in Chennai City.
Ms. N. Malathi, is continuing her Ph. D studies as part time scholar under the guidance of Dr. M. Naganathan. 1.3. University Of Madras Inspection:
In the current year an inspection was carried out by the University of Madras at the Muttukadu campus for renewal of Ph.D. studies in History and sociology. The University of Madras renewal and continuation fee of Rs. 75,000 was paid.
1.4 Academic Consultations and seminars:
On April 7th 2011 on the occasion of Dr. K. Rajaratnam the founder director’s First Death anniversary a paper on “Protect the Poor” was presented by Prof. M. Naganathan Chairman and another paper entitled “Protect Nature” was presented by Prof. Ramachandran Vice Chancellor VEL University.
On April 19th an expert consultation was held on CReNIEO performance in “ Mangroves and Pulicat Lagoon” Dr. Kathiresan, Professor, Mangrove expert, Centre for Advanced studies in Marine Biology, Parangipettai, Annamalai University, Tamilnadu reviewed the project.,
On August 6th 2011 the 90th birth anniversary of founder Director, Dr. K. Rajaratnam a memorial meeting was held and a paper was presented on “Development for Liberation” Dr. K. Joshua professor from MCC.
A consultation on Research methodologies was held on 17th September. eminent professors from the University of Madras and former VC of Barathidasan University participated.
A research study consultation was held on 28th October 2011 to frame a proposal on “Construction and conditions of Hostels for OBC students, their maintenance and functioning and performance of the students.”. Dr. V. Loganathan will be the project leader for the research study.
A consultation was held 16th November 2011 on Public Health with a ppt presentation by-Prof. Håkan Hydén – Professor of Sociology & Law, Lund University Sweden. The consultation was arranged by Prof. D. Sundram.
In June –July 2011 a student Ms. Kugila Dewi from University of Malaysia did her internship on SHGs in Pulicat.
II. Ethics and Doctoral Committees
On 7th October the CReNIEO ethical committee had its first meeting under the Chairman’s ship of Prof. Ambrose, Head of the Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras.
On the same Day 7th October 2011 the CReNIEO doctoral committee met under the chairmanship of Prof. D. Sundram.
III. The Pulicat National Matriculation School (PNMS):
687 Children enrolled for the academic year 2011-2012. 35, students appeared for the 10th STD matriculation examinations in March 2012 and all of them passed. In the current year there are 702 children. The TN government prescribed fee is charged. The total fee collected I 2011-0212 was Rs. 22, 21,363. More furniture was added with the school funds as well as with a 1 Lakh donation from Kristin Steger –Professor at IIT Chennai. A school management committee and safety measures committee was formed.

1 M. Phil.
One student enrolled for the academic year 2008-2009 completed her M. Phil Course. Three students have enrolled for the academic year 2009-2010.
Ms. O. Maanvizhi who had registered for Ph.D. in Economics (Full time) in the University of Madras under the guidance of Dr. P. Govindarajan appeared for her viva and was awarded her Ph.D. The viva was held on 5.3.2010. Dr. R. Rajkumar Prof. of Economics, I.D.E University was the external examiner. It was highly commended. Her thesis was on “Study on Air pollution in Chennai city with special reference to vehicular pollution 1995 to 2006” Ms. N. Malathi, continues her Ph. D studies as part time scholar under the guidance of Dr. M. Naganathan.
3. The Pulicat National Matriculation School (PNMS):
598 Children are presently enrolled in our school for the academic year 2010-2011. 21 students appeared for the 10th STD matriculation examinations in March 2010 and all of them passed with 20 of them
getting first class and one of them securing a second class.
